Ok, that should be fine. You could also try my precompiled kernel version, just to test if it boots.

i don't use initrd in my kernels. Maybe that's the problem with your kernel.

I'm a little disappoined, the sistem is very very very slow.

I'm configuring my system, installing a desktop environment, display manager, some utilities ecc... 400MB to download and 1004 will be used.

400 MB downloaded in 37min 45s, ok, but more than 3 hours & half have passed and it still installing right now Shocked

How is it possible? Debian installed on an external USB drive is mooooooore fast! I don't think it's my Hard Disk...

ram is ok, swap is ps3dd1 + ps3vram (and besides, it's hardly even been used... just some MB).

why, all happen to me?! Dead

Don't use desktop like GNOME or KDE. They eat too much RAM. Use something light like blackbox.

No the problem is non that (by the way, I installed LXDE), the slowness appeared already when it still was a very very base system, without gui ecc..., I was monitoring all the installation process, ram was barely used, only between ~50MB and ~80MB, not to mention swap (at most ~10MB, and we're talking about ps3vram).

I'm used to install a very base Debian system and then customize it as needed, but such a thing had never happened to me, even with almost trashware PC, really.

Plus I have another Debian with pretty the same configuration, but installed on a USB Hard Disk, and it behaves normally, snappy and responsive.

The fault seems to be the internal hard disk. I don't know if it's just the hard drive to be slow (I don't think), or it's a problem to be found elsewhere, like a R/W problem... I need to investigate on this and any help is very appreciated.

And since the problems are never alone (the proof is this thread), I can't configure audio, I followed the wiki, but after rebooting, /dev/sound0 disappear and alsamixer says "This sound device does not have any controls."

I'm going crazy.

Well I must admit that I was probably wrong about the slowness, I tried to reinstall on a usb hard drive and is almost the same as on the internal.
I didn't remember it was so slow, my memory is failing Confused what a shame... sorry

So, my last problem is to configure sound, but as i said in my above post, it doesn't work, or better, sound works, only that you can't adjust volume from alsamixer.

Everything else works fine, wifi, bluetooth ecc...

I've compiled kernel 3.1.7 with glevand's patches, using gcc 4.6 (Fix for set but not used variables & Fix for arch/powerpc/kernel/ptrace.c), and make-kpkg.
Results is, finally system booted from kernel compiled by me. Obviously some things doesn't work due to missing drivers i guess.

Then I've recompiled gitbrew kernel 2.6.39, using gcc 4.6 (Fix for set but not used variables & Fix for arch/powerpc/kernel/ptrace.c), and make-kpkg.
Results is, system doesn't boot, it hangs on petitboot saying "system is going down now...", so same as before.
It could be that the problem is in gitbrew kernel source?
